Amman: The Student Debate Tournament, organised by the Deanship of Student Affairs, concluded under the patronage of the University’s President, Prof. Salam Al-Mahadin.
The debates provided an opportunity for students to present their ideas and develop their skills in competing through the strategies of presenting evidence and using methods of refutation and rebuttal. This contributed to the establishment of a culture of effective dialogue.
Prof. Al-Mahadin and the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Hazem Al-Nsour, presented awards to the winning teams, the arbitration committees, and the participating students.
The winning team comprised students from the Faculty of Media, namely Mariam Gerges, Mohammed Kataneh, Raneem Al-Hindi, and Abdulrahman Al-Rawashdeh. The award for the best speaker was presented to Obada Al-Amrat, a student from the Faculty of Information Technology; Mohammed Kataneh, a student from the Faculty of Media; and Ahmed Saleh, a student from the Faculty of Law.
The judging committees, which included members of the academic staff, evaluated the performance of the students according to the standards expected of professionals in their field, commending the level of seriousness and creativity displayed by the students during the course of the competition.
The competition was preceded by an intensive training programme that lasted for a period of six weeks and was supervised by distinguished students who had obtained accredited certificates in training and judging. The objective of this programme was to equip the participants with the necessary tools to excel in the tournament.
The tournament provided a dynamic space for reflection and debate, as four student teams, each comprising four students from different faculties of the university, engaged in debates on economic, social, and sports issues. This format encouraged critical thinking and facilitated constructive dialogue.
