Amman: At a meeting held at Middle East University, the Arab Universities Governance Council recommended the preparation of a comprehensive and integrated guide for the governance of Arab universities, covering all educational and administrative dimensions. This would improve the educational experience and achieve the concept of a rigorous academic and knowledge environment in Arab member universities. Furthermore, the establishment of a website that contributes to the development of an advanced, dynamic and flexible governance model capable of managing universities in line with the changing global landscape is also recommended.
The meeting was attended by an elite group of academic leaders, namely Secretary General of the Union of Arab Universities, Prof. Amr Salameh; Chairman of the Arab Universities Governance Board, Chairman of Middle East University, Dr. Yacoub Nasereddin; President of the Board, Prof. Salam Al-Mahadin; Director of the Arab Universities Governance Board, Prof. Mohammed Al-Haila; and the trustees of the Arab Universities Governance Board.
The meeting addressed the ways in which the principles of good governance and their practical indicators can be applied to achieve qualitative leaps in the level of Arab universities. In addition, the focus was on consolidating the culture of digital governance and enhancing the capabilities of executive universities to transform ambitious goals into a tangible reality.
The participants reached a unanimous consensus on the necessity to adopt innovative governance models that facilitate the management of the profound transformations currently being witnessed in the realm of university education and its constituent knowledge domains. They emphasised the importance of reinforcing the role of universities as pivotal centres of knowledge production, catalysts of intellectual renewal and sustainable development, and vital contributors to the realisation of comprehensive sustainability.
