Amman: A Christmas tree lighting ceremony was held at Middle East University, under the patronage of His Excellency the Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Jordan, Christophoros Attallah Al-Jazeel. The event was organised with the aim of embodying the message of peace, love, and coexistence that expresses the values of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
During the ceremony, the representative of the Metropolitan of Jordan, Archimandrite Athanasios Qaqish, conveyed his heartfelt congratulations on the occasion to His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Jordanian people, emphasising that the spirit of coexistence is deeply rooted in the Jordanian identity. He underscored that the birth of Jesus Christ serves as a call for peace, respect for freedom of worship, acceptance of diversity, and upholding the values of love and brotherhood. Furthermore, he stressed the necessity to promote the values of justice, mercy, and equality and to work diligently to achieve peace by all means.
The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Middle East University, Dr. Yaqoub Nasereddin, asserted that the significance of today’s ceremony lies in its embodiment of profound human values and principles, in alignment with the Kingdom’s message of love and tolerance, a sentiment that is exemplified by the wise Hashemite leadership. The ceremony, therefore, serves as a symbol of moderation, tolerance, and constructive dialogue. Dr. Nasereddin also commended the efforts of His Majesty the King in his dedication to serving human and national causes.
His Eminence Dr. Hamdi Murad emphasised that this event serves as a significant message to the global community, with a particular emphasis on the nation’s citizens. He underscored Jordan’s reputation as a nation that fosters harmony among its diverse constituents, citing the Amman Message initiated by His Majesty the King, along with the ‘Word of Equality’ and World Interfaith Harmony Week initiatives.
The ceremony featured poetry and folkloric performances by students and the university’s choir, creating an atmosphere characterised by joy and happiness in the presence of numerous national figures, faculty and administrative staff members, and students.
