Amman: In the view of Dr. Muhannad Hijazi, Chairman of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission, the concept of combating corruption is not to be reduced to laws and procedures alone. Rather, it requires a cultural approach that reformulates societal values and instills in individuals a firm belief in justice and responsibility.
This was stated during the dialogue session at the university, held under the patronage of the Chairman of the Middle East University Board of Trustees, Dr. Yaqoub Nasereddin, in the presence of deans of the various faculties, the Dean of Student Affairs, members of the academic and administrative staff, and a group of students.
Dr. Hijazi was greeted by the Vice President of the Board of Directors, Dr. Ahmad Nasereddin; the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Hazem Al-Nsour; the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Najem Al-Rabadi; and the journalist Dr. Hani Al-Badri.
In the dialogue moderated by Dr. Al-Badri, a faculty member at the Faculty of Media, Dr. Hijazi emphasised the pivotal role played by the commission in promoting the values of integrity and transparency standards. He highlighted that integrity is not merely a rhetorical concept; rather, it is a fundamental pillar for building countries and protecting the future of generations.
Additionally, Dr. Al Hijazi presented case studies that illustrated the significant challenges encountered by the commission in addressing corruption. He also highlighted the commission’s achievements, emphasising the importance of instilling moral values at an early stage of education. Furthermore, he asserted that the responsibility of establishing a society where integrity is upheld cannot be attributed to a single entity. Instead, it is a collective responsibility that necessitates the coordinated efforts of individuals and institutions.
The fourth dialogue, entitled ‘The Role of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission in Promoting National Integrity Standards,’ provided an opportunity for in-depth discussion and constructive engagement. During the event, students engaged in a comprehensive dialogue, offering valuable insights on the role of universities in fostering an ethical culture. They emphasised that educational institutions serve as platforms for the advancement of values, intellectual enlightenment, and the development of personal and professional excellence.
